What Should Be In A Vehicle Emergency Kit?
When a disaster strikes, a family’s vehicle might be the only way they
can escape to a shelter or hospital. For that reason, it is very
important for each family to make sure they prepare the main vehicle for
survival and escape. There are certain things that should be put into
every vehicle so that all riders have adequate light, heat, nourishment,
and medical necessities. The vehicle owner should make sure that these
items are safely tucked away for when an emergency arises. The following
is a list of products that should be included in an emergency vehicle
kit:
1. Water
One of the most important elements of survival is water. Individuals
must have drinkable water in order to survive. Water can keep a person
alive for months even when food is not accessible. The individual
preparing the car kit should include a week’s worth of bottled water. It
is best to store small bottles of water to conserve space it the
vehicle.
2. Food
The preparer should also include food items in an emergency vehicle kit.
Energy bars, canned foods, and other non-perishable items are excellent
because they do not take up a great deal of space. Crackers also
provide nourishment in emergencies.
3. Warmth
Blankets and ponchos will help keep family members warm should the car
break down in cold or rainy weather. Wool is the best material for
keeping in heat. The individual could also invest in warm packs. Warm
packs last between 6 and 20 hours.
4. Light
It is very possible that the family will be stuck in a situation where
there is no light. Therefore, alternate sources of light such as
candles, matches, and light sticks should be tucked away in the
emergency kit. Flashlights are also good sources of light. The preparer
should pack extra batteries as well.
5. First Aid
The emergency vehicle kit preparer should include items for first aid in
case someone is injured. A proper first aid kit should contain
antiseptic cream or ointment, bandages, soap, tape, and a pain reliever.
It may take emergency units a considerable amount of time to arrive and
help, so having the best first aid is crucial.
6. Grooming
Grooming might be the last thing on anyone’s mind in a time of
emergency. However, it would not hurt to pack a tiny bag of grooming
items such as toilet paper, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes,
hairbrushes, and the like. Sometimes feeling fresh can help people to
stay positive during a time of crisis.
7. Car Care Products
In addition to adding items that will help take care of the family
members, the preparer should also add items that will protect the car.
Things like antifreeze, extra oil, and transmission fluid might be
necessary to keep the car running. The individual should also make sure
there is a spare tire available. Debris on the road might cause a flat
tire.
Being prepared is one of the most important elements in an emergency.
Residents should start preparing now to save them later. It is much
better for a person to be prepared for an emergency early, than
unprepared and in trouble.
