Emergency Fire Safety
A house fire is a
devastating ordeal for any family to go through and it typically it
takes several years to recover once they lose everything. However, most
people think it can never happen to them therefore they do not plan for
the emergency fire safety with their families. Unfortunately, if it does
happen to them then they do not know what to do so they panic which
does not help the situation at all.
One of the hardest things to do in any emergency situation is to stay
calm. However when the family has a well laid out plan of action ahead
of time it makes it easier to deal with because they know what to do
when an emergency situation arises. This is why it is so important for
everyone to sit down with their families in advance and devise an
evacuation plan. Remember that the best plans are practiced and tested
before an emergency arises to ensure everyone knows what the plan is.
Every house should have a couple of fire extinguishers that are handy as
part of an emergency fire safety plan. They should have one near the
cook stove and one near each of the exits of their house. On occasion,
they will be may be able to use the fire extinguisher to put out a small
fire before it gets out of hand. However, if the fire is too big then
it is best just to get out to ensure that they can save everyone's
lives. After all, material things can be replaced but people can not and
that is what matters the most.
It is a good idea to put together a 72 hour kit that will be ready to
grab and go in the event of an emergency. It should be kept in a place
which is close to an exit door, otherwise it may become inaccessible
when the need arrives. This kit will typically contain things that can
be used such as first aid items in case someone gets hurt or food, and
temporary shelter which will help the family get through the situation
until they can get back on their feet. These kits can be large enough
for a family or individual sized depending on the need.
As part of an emergency fire safety plan each family should have extra
cash and copies of their important documents in a fire proof safe that
will protect them. Then they should develop a list of important phone
numbers that can be kept where everyone can access it. This eliminates
wasting valuable time looking for these items when an emergency happens.
Emergencies happen to everyone and are often unpredictable which is why
having a contingency plan is so important for everyone to have in place
before the need arises.
